Leaders Cruise To Charity Cup Win

Ashton Prime 0-6 Blackham & Ashurst

Prime were down to the bare bones for their tough cup encounter with Blackham - the league leaders.

The Numbers were without several regulars including keeper Tony Leigh - so Barney Mellors filled the sizeable gap between the sticks.

Prime started brightly and battled hard to close down their opponents and for the first 20 minutes it was a very even contest.

However Blackham broke quickly from a Prime corner and Mellors was left with no chance.

10 minutes later the lead was doubled as the Prime defence stood motionless as the ref didn't blow for Flamank's challenge on the Blackham winger. This left 2 of the visitor's strikers with the simple task of rolling into the empty net.

The home side battled back for the last 10 minutes of the half and went in 2-0 down.

It was the worst possible start to the 2nd half though as Blackham shot directly from the kick-off and Mellors was left helpless as the ball sailed over his head into the roof of the net.

Worse was to follow as from a Blackham corner, the right back cut inside and smashed an unstoppable 25 yarder into the top corner.

The home side were visibly deflated by this 2 goal salvo but began to battle back into the game and forced a number of corners which debutant Donovan delivered with menace.

The best Prime chance fell to Flamank who fired over following a corner.

Blackham soaked up this pressure and then added 2 further late goals to rub salt into the wound.
