Prime Ease To First Bayham Win

Ashton Prime 2-0 Frant Reserves

Things didn't look good for Prime who were without several first team regulars as they finally got into action after 4 consecutive postponements.

The Numbers were without Gilbert, Barker, French, Smith-Foreman and Sturmey amongst others which led to a defensive re-shuffle.

Goldsmith slotted into centre-back alongside Leaver, with Buckland and Barr completing a makeshift backline.

Prime started the game positively, using the slope and wind advantage to put pressure on the visitors.

After just 10 minutes, a long headed clearance found Mellors whose slide-rule pass found the skipper Hansen who coolly beat the advancing keeper to put Prime in front.

Prime continued to pressurise and from an inswinging corner, a goal-mouth scramble resulted in Ellis forcing home to double the lead.

The half-time interval signalled a change in the power of the game, with Frant pushing forward, aided by the strengthening wind.

Prime were put under intense pressure and Leaver and Goldsmith had to work overtime to keep the 2 goal lead intact.

Leigh pulled out a couple of excellent saves as Frant pressed, but with Ellis and Matthews battling away in the middle, Frant ran out of steam and Prime cruised to an impressive win.
