Threadbare Prime Defeated But Not Disgraced
Ashton Prime 1-3 Dowgate
With over 20 players ruled out, Prime faced the daunting prospect of two back-to-back 60 minute games against high-flying Dowgate.
With Leigh away, French filled in between the sticks, with Sturmey in at left-back and Mellors moving into midfield.
The visitors took an early lead when hesitation between French and the defence enabled the Dowgate striker to loop a header agonisingly out of Gilbert's reach on the line.
Prime battled back into the game and it was a fairly even contest, with Walters looking dangerous down the left.
The second half started badly as Dowgate's central midfielder curled in from 30 yards.
Prime's hopes were resurrected when Smith-Foreman's flick released the pacy Rhee who slotted home with a cool left-foot finish.
But slack Prime defending let Dowgate fire in a third in the closing minutes.
