Prime Suffer Heavy Defeat

Paddock Wood Youth & Junior 8-0 Ashton Prime

Prime went into this encounter with a strong looking side, enabling Goldsmith to rest himself on the bench.

Bishop came in between the sticks and with Gilbert and Leaver keeping things tight early on, Prime settled well.

However, on the 20 minute mark, a long through ball held up in the mud and the Wood striker beat Bishop to the ball to smash the home side ahead.

A scrappy second was added shortly after, and Prime's afternoon started to look bleak when Ellis had to limp off.

Goldsmith entered the fray but his arrival could not stop a 3rd goal before the interval.

Skovborg-Hansen was then cynically hacked down on the edge of the box and was forced to go off too with an ankle injury.

The ref mystifyingly didn't even warn the Wood full-back, despite being very sharp on his whistle for any Prime infringement.

A clash of heads left Smith-Foreman dazed, and he too was replaced at the break by Sturmey.

Wood quickly added a 4th goal, and as Goldsmith tried to clear a corner he was crunched into by yet another late Wood challenge which left him limping for the rest of the game - but with all subs used, he had no choice but to carry on.

Prime's frustration was building by the minute as the ref gave decision after decision to the home side, and eventually Goldsmith - after being hacked down yet again 5 minutes previously and not awarded a free-kick - went into the book for an innocuous shirt pulling.

With Gilbert now also limping heavily, Wood were able to run in 4 further goals - 2 of which were clearly offside - but again the ref let them go.

Prime players and supporters gave the ref a torrid time at the end of the game, but the damage had been done.
