Prime's slow start proves costly

Ashton Prime 0-2 Paddock Wood

After two consecutive postponements, Prime returned to action against a side who they had drawn 0-0 with in the reverse fixture.

Flamank had returned to Uni and Ellis and Leaver were absent, whilst Carl Barker was ruled out through injury. Rob Matthews returned to the starting XI in midfield alongside Walsh, with Goulding making his first start on the left. Mellors claimed the captaincy on his return up front.

Wood won the toss and kicked with the slope and wind in their favour in the first half, and immediately they began to dominate proceedings.

They took the lead 10 minutes in, when following a series of corners, their centre-back was left unmarked to plant a header beyond Skovborg-Hansen.

The lead was doubled 10 minutes later when an inswinging corner sailed beyond the keeper and Tom Matthews on the back post, and into the net.

Prime were struggling to get into the match, but good link up play between Matthews and Walsh released Smith-Foreman, who shot tamely when through on goal.

Further pressure from the visitors followed, with Skovborg-Hansen making several excellent stops and Barker making some last-ditch tackles.

Somehow Prime got into the break just 2 down and were confident of making inroads into the deficit in the second half with the wind in their favour.

Mazurkiewicz entered the fray when Gilbert's dead-leg forced him off.

Prime were struggling to create anything of note however, and their distinct lack of pace up front was severely hampering their attacking intent.

The impressive Goulding had a speculative shot from distance but Prime did not really look like pulling a goal back.

Goldsmith replaced the tiring Walsh with 20 minutes to go, and from his powerful header, the Wood centre-back made a hash of his clearance, leaving Mellors in the clear - but the keeper came out well to smother his effort.

At the other end, Skovborg-Hansen produced a superb save to keep Prime in it when he came out and got a fingertip onto the post, before Matthews scrambled the ball clear.

Sturmey replaced Goulding for the last 10, and he produced some solid touches and showed the composure that was lacking in Prime's play for most of the proceedings.

Man of the Match: Goulding - Excellent work-rate and used the ball well.
