Prime finally enjoy taste of success

Ashton Prime 3-0 Frant

Elvis is alive and well! Lord Lucan has been found! A Man Utd fan has been spotted actually in Manchester! Prime have won a match! Until today, it would have been difficult to spot the odd one out from the above - but at Bayham today, after a winless run stretching back nearly 9 months, Prime finally had the taste of a sweet success.

Following another abject performance last time out against East Peckham, Prime made changes, with Coppard signed on a last-minute deal to take over from the retired Leigh in goal. Gilbert returned at centre-back as Goldsmith left himself out. Walsh returned at left-back and Mazurkiewicz reverted to right-back. In midfield, Ellis moved up to left-wing, with Goulding moving in-field, and up top Goldsmith went for the pace of Carl Barker and skipper Skovborg-Hansen.

From the off, Prime were on the front foot, taking full advantage took of the slope. After 15 mins they took a well-deserved lead as Ellis' delicious through ball found Skovborg-Hansen in acres of space to slot home.

Prime continued to dominate, with Goulding and Mellors bossing the midfield. A second goal soon followed as Carl Barker's pace got him to his strike-partner's through-ball before the advancing keeper, and he expertly chipped the ball past him to consolidate The Numbers' advantage.

It was largely one-way traffic, but on the break, debutant keeper Coppard made an awesome point-blank save to ensure Prime went in with a deserved 2-0 lead at the break.

Frant started the second half in the ascendancy, but the Prime defence - so frail at times this season - was looking watertight with Gilbert, Walsh and Mazurkiewicz winning every tackle and the excellent Jamie Barker sweeping up everything.

Indeed it was Prime who looked more dangerous and Kneebone, Carl Barker and Goulding all had chances to extend their lead.

Rob Matthews joined the action with 25 minutes to go, replacing the impressive Goulding, and soon Prime were in the comfort zone as Frant were cut to ribbons by Skovborg-Hansen's pace.

The skipper let a through-ball run between his legs, before comprehensively out-sprinting the chunky Frant centre-half and coolly slotting home to the keeper's left to ensure Prime were taking the points.

Sankey and Barnham entered the action in the last 15 as Prime seeked to see out time. There was still time however for Coppard to underline his excellence with a superb save from a curling 25-yarder with 5 minutes to go.

Frant heads dropped yet further as they were denied a way back into the game, and on the break Prime should have had their fourth as Ellis produced a lung-bursting run down the left-wing and a pin-point cross for Skovborg-Hansen to complete his hat-trick - but the striker was out on his feet and his feeble finish went straight into the keeper's hands.

But Prime held on comfortably and there were jubilant scenes at the final whistle.

Man of the Match: BarkerJ - Never looked like letting a Frant attacker through.
