Prime frustrated as Roselands complete double
Roselands Reserves 1-0 Ashton Prime
Several of Prime's first team players returned to the fray for the trip to Roselands, the most notable being the welcome return of keeper Phill Allcorn between the sticks, sporting his garish pink jersey.
The Barker brothers both returned, with Mellors back in central midfield. Goldsmith, Goulding, Skovborg-Hansen, Barnham and Sturmey made up the full quota of subs.
Prime nearly shot themselves in the foot immediately as the home side played a long ball over the top and Prime were caught napping, but fortunately the striker shot high and wide.
This jolted Prime into action and with the Poles Mazurkiewicz and Maszka linking up well down the right, it was the visitors who were dominating proceedings.
Maszka cut inside his marker and unleashed 2 left-footed drives as Prime pressed for the opener.
Roselands were struggling to create chances and their best opportunities came from set-pieces and sure enough after half an hour, a long throw was flicked on at the near post and Gilbert, in trying to clear flicked the ball goalwards and although Allcorn got fingertips to it, he could not keep it out.
The goal was against the run of play, and Prime so nearly levelled matters from Smith-Foremans chip which the keeper tipped onto the bar.
Matthews also hooked over the bar following a Prime break down the right.
Half-time arrived and Prime were mystified as to how they were behind.
Within seconds of the restart, Prime were handed a golden opportunity to level when Ellis was released in the box and with time and space, he smashed his shot over the bar.
Skovborg-Hansen and Goulding replaced Carl Barker and Matthews as Prime sought an equaliser that their play deserved.
Prime were camped in the Roselands half and Allcorn and his defence were rarely called upon, although all 5 looked very solid.
Goldsmith replaced Maszka to add some urgency in the last 15 minutes, and his long throws were wreaking havoc in the Roselands defence, but the ball would just not drop to a Prime player. In the last minute, Goldsmith won a corner and curled it in towards the near post. The ball bobbled around and hit Goulding, but he could not adjust his feet to stab it goalwards, and the final whistle sounded.
