Wanderers hit Prime for six
Ashton Prime 2-6 Brenchley Wanderers Reserves
Following a two-week break, Prime returned to action with a strong squad to face old rivals Brenchley.
However, with the referee failing to show up, a frustrated Goldsmith had no option but to take the whistle, with Gilbert called in to start at Centre-Back minutes before kick-off.
The visitors started brightly and looked extremely dangerous down their right-hand side, with Sankey given a torrid time. After just 10 minutes, their pressure told with the visitor's striker netting following a corner.
A dis-jointed Prime were really struggling to get going and Barker was forced into 2 exceptional goal-line clearances to keep The Numbers in it.
Prime then started to come into the game and a long ball released Skovborg-Hansen, who streaked clear of the Brenchley defence before coolly lobbing the advancing keeper to level matters at 1 all.
Brenchley soon regained their composure and romped into a 4-1 half-time lead with 3 further goals all coming from corners, as Prime failed to cope with their aerial presence.
At the break, Garside replaced Sankey, with Mazurkiewicz moving to Centre-Back and Gilbert slotting in at left-back.
The home side started to look slightly more solid as a result, but Leigh was helpless to stop Brenchley making it 5-1 10 minutes into the second half.
Smith-Foreman was introduced at the expense of Matthews as Prime sought a way back into the game. Kneebone and Skovborg-Hansen still looked dangerous with their pace, and from Skovborg-Hansen's excellent run and cross, the normally composed Mellors inexplicably mis-kicked from inside the 6-yard box, with the goal at his mercy.
However, his blushes were spared as from a corner shortly after, Smith-Foreman smashed home into the roof of the net to give Prime some hope.
Carl Barker replaced the excellent Skovborg-Hansen with 25 minutes to go and he and Smith-Foreman linked up well as the home side finally started causing problems. Gilbert's back-post header from a corner hit the post as Prime pressed.
But the visitors rounded off the win with yet another goal from a set-piece, with their veteran Centre-Back heading home to complete the scoring.
In an ill-tempered match, a 10 man brawl broke out in the closing stages...the return match at Brenchley in the New Year will be a fiesty encounter.
