Potters claim comfortable win
Potters FC 5-0 Ashton Prime
Following last week's drubbing at Cadogan, Prime headed to Borough Green to face Potters FC, who are now a Division below Prime's previous opponents Dunton Green Reserves.
Prime were determined to put in an improved showing, and welcomed back Gilbert and Jamie Barker to their defence, but they were still without Ellis, and Goulding was unavailable along with strikers Carl Barker, Skovborg-Hansen and Excell.
Mazurkiewicz was moved forward to right-midfield and Kneebone joined Goldsmith in a makeshift forward line.
The game started evenly, with Garside and Barker keeping the dangerous Potters captain at bay with some good last-ditch tackles.
At the other end, Prime's best moments came from Goldsmith's long throws - one of which was flicked on and Mazurkiewicz hit his shot into the ground and the keeper tipped it over.
Moments later, Kneebone had a guilt-edged chance, but he hit a snap-shot from the edge of the box when he could have run in on goal.
Potters started to exert some pressure and a thunderous 25 yard drive produced a stunning save from Latter. But from the resulting corner, Postlethwaite failed to clear and the Potters midfielder struck a low shot beyond the keeper.
Prime went on to concede a second when a mis-hit cross from the right wing sailed over the helpless Latter and into the far corner of the net.
It was a cruel blow to Prime and goal number 3 arrived before the break due to some slack marking from a free-kick.
Prime's frustration was starting to grow, and when Goldsmith was not awarded a free-kick for a blatant push in the back, he let out a torrent of abuse at the ref.
At half-time, Gilbert returned to Centre-Back with Garside moved to left-back. Prime started the second period the better team, and looked a lot more solid at the back.
Goldsmith and Mellors had switched positions and both put in improved second half performances as a result with Goldsmith and Matthews winning the ball in midfield and Mellors linking up well with Kneebone up front.
Mazurkiewicz continued to maraud down the right wing and only a fine save from the keeper prevented him from pulling one back. Moments later, Kneebone raced clear and his firmly struck shot beat the keeper but smacked back off the upright. From the rebound, Kneebone delivered a teasing ball to the back post, which Goldsmith just reached with a diving header, but he could not find the target.
Walters continued to put in some dangerous crosses, but despite headed efforts from Barker and Gilbert, it wasn't to be Prime's day.
At the other end, Potters scored a 4th on the break, despite a brave challenge by Latter who damaged his toe in coming out to close down the striker, before the ball fell to Potters midfielder Willard, whose sliced chip flew agonisingly over Barker on the line.
To add insult to injury, Potters were awarded a dubious penalty when a shot hit Gilbert's arm from point-blank range, and despite protests from The Numbers, the Potters striker calmly rolled in number 5.
