Prime pay the penalty at 9-man Roses
Roselands Reserves 1-0 Ashton Prime
On the back of an encouraging performance against AFC Valour on the opening day, Prime travelled to Tonbridge seeking their first ever cup win.
With Walters away and Goldsmith injured, Skovborg-Hansen and Carl Barker both made welcome returns to the Prime starting lineup, with Goulding returning to make the bench. Latter made his first competitive Prime start between the sticks.
The game started with Prime in the ascendancy with Skovborg-Hansen in his unfamiliar central midfield role and Matthews working well.
Both sides were struggling to break their opponents defence down, but Prime had a couple of half chances with Matthews hitting two volleys from the edge of the box just wide and Kneebone's snap shot also failing narrowly to hit the target.
Prime were looking dangerous down the right hand side with Mazurkiewicz and Kneebone linking up well. From one such move, Barker got across his man to force home at the second attempt only for the linseman's flag to rescue the Tonbridge outfit.
On the half hour mark, the decisive moment of the game occurred as Roselands hurled in another long throw to the Prime box, the ball seemed to be heading away from danger as Jamie Barker shepherded their striker away from goal, but as he lunged to put the ball out of play, a threatric dive from the striker resulted in the ref pointing to the spot.
All of Prime's players were frustrated but it was Excell who found himself in trouble with the ref and he was booked for his protestations.
The burly Roselands midfielder strode forward and sent Latter the wrong way from the spot.
Emotions were running high and the quality of the game suffered as a result.
At half-time, Goldsmith implored his team to remain calm and start playing football again, like they had been for the first 25 minutes or so.
The second half commenced with Roselands still in feisty mood and their midfielder saw yellow for a late tackle.
Prime were trying to get going, but despite bossing the territorial side of the game, they couldn't find a way through the solid rearguard.
Midway through the second half, Roselands were reduced to 10 men when their booked midfielder inexplicably handballed as Prime broke and he was rightly give a second yellow.
But rather than receiving a boost, Prime started to panic, seemingly too eager to capitalise on their numerical advantage. They started to hit long hopeful balls and tried shots from distance when easy passes were the better option.
Mazurkiewicz did provide one bright moment when he ghosted past several tackles before unleasing a right-footed drive which went just wide.
A through ball by Gilbert also released Carl Barker whose initial shot was saved and then he couldn't quite force home the rebound.
At the other end, as Prime committed players forward, Roselands broke clear, and Mazurkiewicz cynically brought down the Roselands striker right on the edge of the box and was lucky to escape unpunished.
The Roselands left winger hit a stinging drive from the free-kick which Latter did well to tip over.
Soon after, the home side were reduced to 9 as their star player completely lost his head and swore at the ref, who immediately issued his marching orders.
Prime still had 15 minutes remaining and had thrown on Goulding and then Sturmey to try to force extra-time.
But they lacked any composure on the ball and reduced themselves to hitting long hopeful balls into the box which were comfotably dealt with.
The closest Prime came in the final quarter was when Sturmey hit a dangerous left footed cross to the far post which the keeper did well to keep out.
The final whistle sounded as Prime ran out of ideas and left The Numbers still seeking their elusive first win in cup competition.
