Transformed Numbers complete Brenchley double
Brenchley Wanderers Reserves 0-2 Ashton Prime
Following last week's much needed win against Frant, Prime travelled to Brenchley with confidence and with the only one change from last week's win.
Excell was the only absentee, allowing Walker to start in his favoured role up front. Flamank, Webb and Goldsmith returned to make up the bench.
The game started in very open fashion and both sides had early chances. A long ball through left the Brenchley striker clean through with just Kerton to beat, but he shot tamely into the keeper's arms.
At the other end, Skovborg-Hansen and Walker both put efforts over the bar when well placed.
But Brenchley then had a sequence of corners and from one of these they rattled the bar with Kerton beaten.
Prime started to nullify the Brenchley threat, with Gilbert and Mazurkiewicz looking very solid and both full-backs - Sander and Goulding - winning vital challenges.
Matthews and Mellors were also starting to win the midfield battle and as they managed to win possession, Prime began to dominate. Kneebone was a constant menace with his pace and direct running, but the Numbers were having more joy down their left-wing with Walters finding plenty of space and putting in several teasing crosses.
From one such cross, after a flowing Prime move, Skovborg-Hansen's back post header beat the keeper, but it was Prime's turn to be frustrated by the crossbar.
It was nearly a carbon copy moments later but this time Skovborg-Hansen unselfishly headed back across goal, but Goulding narrowly failed to get a touch with the goal gaping.
Somehow it was still goalless at the break, but Prime knew that if they kept playing like they were, then surely the goal would come.
It was starting to look like one of those days as further chances went begging with Skovborg-Hansen again denied and Kneebone firing wide.
Brenchley nearly took the lead in fortuatous circumstances when a mis-hit cross threatened to deceive Kerton, but the keeper expertly tipped the ball wide.
Flamank, fresh from another term at uni came on to replace Sander and immediately had an impact with his pace and attacking intent from the right-back position.
Finally, with an hour on the clock, Prime took a deserved lead, when Walker smashed home from a tight angle after a shot had been charged down. It was Walker's first for the club and was just reward for an impressive performance.
Brenchley heads seemed to drop and Prime were now firmly on the front foot. Webb replaced Skovborg-Hansen and soon after Prime were enjoying a 2 goal advantage. From another Prime attack, the ball broke to Walters who hit an exocet of a left-footed strike in beyond the helpless keeper.
It was also Walters' first goal for the club and it capped a sparkling display by the winger.
Prime were now buzzing and Kneebone and Flamank were tearing the home side to shreds down the right-wing and following a delightful interchange of passes between the two, Webb headed tamely wide.
Mellors was now running the midfield and when he was given space 30 yards out, he let fly and was within inches of scoring Prime's goal of the season.
Brenchley again went close when another mis-hit pass was clawed away by Kerton, who was set to claim a 2nd consecutive clean sheet.
Goldsmith replaced the excellent Matthews for the final 10 minutes as the player-boss made his 50th career appearance for The Numbers. Alongside Mellors, he won a couple of important challenges in the final few minutes, as Prime closed out an impressive victory.
