Prime cruise through in cup
Ashton Prime 4-1 Roselands Reserves
Despite heavy rain throughout the week, the new drainage system at Bayham stood up to the test and Prime's cup game with Roselands went ahead.
Prime were missing Barnham, Davis and Ellis from last week, so Garside and Sander slotted in at full-back and skipper Goldsmith filled an unfamiliar gap on the left-wing.
The Numbers started up the hill, and were soon into their stride as Excell's through ball into the corridor of uncertainty between the keeper and the defenders caused confusion and Walker nipped in to slot home.
Skovborg-Hansen looked particularly dangerous down the right wing and Prime were soon 2 ahead after a slack defensive clearance across the face of goal went straight to the prolific Walker, who swivelled and beat the keeper from 10 yards.
Roselands were not playing like a side bottom of the table and put some good passing moves together. But Mazurkiewicz and Barker looked rock solid at the back and Garside and Sander were both keeping the visitor's wingers quiet.
Kerton was called into action after half an hour when he tipped a 30 yarder over the bar.
Prime were putting some slick passing moves together with Hodges and Abu in particular impressing - and they were 3 up at the break after Walker cut the ball back for strike partner Excell to slot home from point-blank range.
The hard work of going uphill was done - but the match was not over and despite dominating the first 15 minutes of the second half, Prime's final ball was poor and they couldn't add to their tally.
They were made to pay when the ball bounced up awkwardly in the Prime box and Jamie Barker was adjudged to have handled.
The resultant penalty was blasted into the roof of the net - denying Kerton another penalty save.
Roselands sensed they were back in the game and piled forward in search of a 2nd goal - but again Prime were resolute - with Hodges snuffing out any danger just in front of the back 4.
The midfielder nearly got a deserved goal when the ball dropped on his right foot some 25 yards out. He caught the volley sweetly, but the keeper saved well with his feet.
Prime still looked dangerous going forward, and eventually the 4th goal came when Goldsmith's long throw sailed over the Roselands centre-back and Sander was there to hook home with his left foot - a 3rd goal of the season for the defender!
In the last minute a superb back-heel by Excell released the on-rushing Goldsmith, but the skipper sliced his left footed effort wide of the near post.
Man of the Match: Hodges - Won every tackle and really unlucky with great volley
