Paddock Wood Reserves 2-4 Ashton Prime
Saturday 3rd April 2010, Cadogan Recreation Ground
After 4 consecutive defeats, Prime returned to league action against basement boys Paddock Wood Reserves. The home side's Elm Tree pitch was declared unplayable, so the game was switched to the Cadogan Ground in Tunbridge Wells.
Prime were without Bishop and Sander, but Carl Barker returned up front and Barnham filled the gap at right-back. Flamank made a welcome return from Uni and he was the sole substitute.
Prime kicked off downhill and with their 4-2-3-1 formation working well, it seemed only a matter of time before they would take the lead. But they could not find the finish with Excell amongst others missing guilt-edged chances as Goldsmith's long throws wreacked havoc in the Wood defence.
At the other end, Matt Walker and Mazurkiewicz were being kept busy by Wood's big physical striker and his pacy strike-partner and they fashioned a couple of decent chances but could not hit the target.
Finally on 20 minutes, Barnham's through ball held up perfectly for Barker who made no mistake - beating the on-rushing keeper.
Prime were playing all the football, but could not find the net again until they finally produced a flowing passing move that got a deserved goal.
Barnham found Goldsmith on the half-way line. His first-time ball down the line found Barker who passed inside for Joe Walker. He got to the bye-line and cut the ball back for Walters to smash home.
At half-time Prime knew they just needed to keep playing and further goals would come. This seemed about right as Barker ran through again within a couple of minutes of the restart and again beat the keeper as he tried to smother his shot.
But Wood found a way back into the game just 5 minutes later when Abu was harshly adjudged to have fouled their midfielder 25 yards out. Despite a 4-man wall, the Wood player curled the ball perfectly into the roof of the net - giving Kerton no chance.
10 minutes later, they were right back in the game as their midfielder hit an angled drive into the corner, again leaving Kerton helpless.
Prime had lost their heads and it was panic stations as a dangerous cross from the left flashed across the face of the Prime goal and Flamank's attempted clearance rolled agonisingly against his own post, but in fairness he recovered to make a tremendous block tackle to deny Wood an equaliser.
Prime began to find some stability and with 20 minutes left Walters' free-kick bounced in front of the keeper who could only parry and Flamank was there to tap home a vital 4th goal.
This seemed to deflate the home side and Prime could and should have added further goals as Goldsmith sliced into the side netting and Joe Walker fired over - before Barker was denied his hat-trick by a good double-save by the keeper.
The last 10 minutes were a bit of a non-event as Prime saw out the time to claim a much-needed win.
