Frant 3-7 Ashton Prime
Saturday 20th November 2010, Church Fields, Frant
Prime made the short trip to bottom of the table Frant full of confidence and seeking to stretch their winning run to 8 games.
The hosts may have only taken 1 point from their opening 7 games, but they had only lost by more than 1 goal once so far this season - so they were not to be taken lightly.
Prime made just one change - with Excell away on holiday, captain Matt Walker returned to the midfield, with Walters returning to his favoured left-wing berth, with Chapman pushed up-front.
Gilbert, Sander, Goulding and Barnham made up a 4-strong bench with the likes of Postlethwaite and Ellis not even making the squad - a further sign of their strength in depth.
The pitch was boggy but playable and as Frant got the game underway, it was clear that it was not a day for fancy dribbling with the centre of the park in particular very sticky.
Prime - sporting their blue away kit for the first time this season took the lead when Mazurkiewicz's deep curling cross was headed in by the prolific Joe Walker - the second year running that he has scored with his head at Church Fields.
The Numbers doubled their lead on 15 minutes when Henshall cut inside leaving 2 men for dead before calmly slotting in beyond the keeper.
A third goal followed soon after when Goldsmith intercepted a through-ball and then threaded the ball through to an unmarked Joe Walker who notched his 2nd of the game.
The home side were frustrated as a lot of the midfield play was very good, but they lacked punch up front and their defence was very shaky.
Rich Davis' long clearance resulted in a comical 4th goal for Prime as the Frant keeper slid out to claim the ball on the corner of his box, but the lively Chapman slid in a nicked the ball away from him, before casually strolling along the by-line and slotting home.
Frant pulled one back in a disappointing manner from the Prime perspective. A deep corner found 2 Frant players attacking it round the back completely unmarked - and their centre-back Ennis headed home.
Kerton was also forced into a superb save to deny their midfielder whose looping shot was tipped onto the bar.
Kerton then claimed an assist as well with his long clearance finding its way through to Walker to complete a first-half hat-trick.
But Frant kept battling and after a fierce drive from their midfielder, Kerton did well to parry - but Frant's winger nipped in to slot home the rebound.
So it was 5-2 at the break and Prime were making hard work of it on what was a very difficult pitch.
The next goal would be crucial and unfortunately it was Frant who scored it. A chipped ball forward eluded Mazurkiewicz and as Parsons covered, he got the ball caught up under his feet and their striker usurped him before stabbing home through Kerton's legs.
Frant were sensing a comeback - reminiscant of their 5-5 epic a couple of years ago - but Prime showed good resolve with Matt Walker - who was in the wars throughout the game - making several vital interceptions and Abu as normal working tirelessly to keep Frant out.
Mazurkiewicz then put a ball through to Joe Walker who again easily brushed off his marker before rolling in the crucial 6th goal for Prime that gave them breathing space.
Gilbert replaced Goldsmith immediately - the player/boss withdrawing himself after picking up a booking for a rash challenge moments earlier.
Chapman and Joe Walker were linking up really well and Chapman got a deserved 2nd as he found himself one on one with the keeper and again slotted home.
A worrying moment for the visitors came when centre-back Parsons clashed heads with the Frant striker twice in a matter of minutes - the second one resulted in immediate swelling to the side of his head.
The lump was the size of a golf ball and with concerns regarding concussion, he was withdrawn from the game and taken the A&E for tests. Sander replaced him, with Mazurkiewicz switched to centre-back.
Goulding came on for Davis for the closing period as the game petered out and Prime clinched the points comfortably.
