Ashton Prime 3-0 Paddock Wood Reserves

Saturday 23rd October 2010, Cadogan Recreation Ground

Prime returned to league action looking to make it four wins in a row against bottom of the table Paddock Wood Reserves.

The Numbers were missing several players though, including Ellis, Mazurkiewicz and player/boss Goldsmith who was attending Sturmey's wedding.

Strike pairing Excell and Carl Barker both returned to the starting XI, with new boys Polinski and Parsons drafted in on the bench.

The game started with the basement boys only having 9 players with their 10th (and final man for the day) delayed in traffic.

This would have been an ideal chance for Prime to ease into an early lead, but a combination of poor passing by the home side and a spirited resistance by 'Wood meant that Prime were frustrated. In particular Abu who clashed with ex-Prime keeper Gary Latter in the first 10 minutes and referee Delves was close to producing a card until captain Walker's intervention.

Prime did eventually find a way through - but not before the visitors had at least got their 10th player onto the pitch. A scramble in the box fell for Henshall who turned home his first competitive goal for the club.

In the second half, Prime added to their lead when Excell released Sander down the right and he beat the keeper with a good finish from the edge of the box.

The game was wrapped up when Excell found the net for the first time in 8 months - a huge relief for the striker who can hopefully now go on to find his best goalscoring form for the rest of the season.

With Gilbert also departing at the break to attend a wedding, Parsons was handed his debut in the second half, and he excelled and will now be pushing hard for a first XI start in the weeks to come.

Polinski also made his debut in the centre of midfield, and Goulding joined the action for the last 15 minutes - extending his record as Prime's oldest player to 37 years and 228 days!
