Roselands Reserves 0-7 Ashton Prime

Saturday 3rd March 2012, Tonbridge Racecourse Sportsground

Prime made it 13 goals for, with none conceded in the last 2 games, after a comprehensive win over struggling Roselands Reserves.

Coleman and Barker returned to the starting XI in place of the absent Chapman and the player/boss Goldsmith. Barnham also replaced Gilbert in defence.

Prime knew they were playing a side bereft of confidence and that an early goal should make life easy - the goal came on 5 minutes. Ferguson did well in the box and his chipped pass found Henshall who netted from close-range.

It was 2-0 soon after when Henshall picked up a loose ball on the edge of the box and lashed a 20-yarder into the net before the keeper could move. It was only his 3rd goal of the season - all 3 against the Tonbridge outfit.

Ferguson and Barker were proving too much for the Roselands defenders and it was not long before Ferguson was afforded time and space to ghost past a defender in the box and roll home Prime's 3rd.

It was as one-sided a half as you could imagine, with Roselands forcing a couple of corners but rarely crossing the half-way line. Prime's dominance was rewarded when Coleman hit a curling drive from outside the box which deceived the keeper and flew into the net for 4-0.

Captain Abu's corner was nodded home by the prolific defender Tom Cary soon after - his 5th goal of the season and Prime's 5th of the half.

In truth it could and should have been more - Overy curled a left-footer just over the bar and Barker was denied on several occasions by the keeper when well placed.

At the interval, Prime sensed a real opportunity to boost their goal difference - but playing into a strong breeze would clearly make life slightly more difficult.

This appeared to be the case as Roselands enjoyed by far their best period of the game for 10 minutes after the break - but still Cary and Ellis were in control and Kerton's goal was never threatened.

Prime started to assert their authority on the half and they added a 6th goal when Coleman was on hand to slot home again, after the keeper had made 2 good saves to deny Barker.

Immediately Coleman was withdrawn, along with Overy - both wingers had put in a good shift. Flamank and Sander joined the fray.

Sander nearly made an instant impact when his surprising bullet header was excellently saved by Roselands' stand-in keeper - on for their injured number 1.

Goldsmith replaced Ferguson for the last 25 minutes and with his first involvement Prime added their 7th goal. He took a throw in down the left-wing and the long-throw was partially cleared back to him. He kept the ball in play and then - with time and space - he clipped a perfect ball in over the top of the centre-backs for Barker to run onto and finally net his first goal of the game and his 40th for the club.

Prime were revelling in the space that they were all being given and further chances came and went for Barker, Goldsmith and Sander - but the damage was already done.

A convincing win and a good performance, but Prime must be more clinical in front of goal if they are to beat East Peckham in the first of 2 double-headers next weekend.
