Ightham 11-0 Ashton Prime
Saturday 1st September 2012, The Ightham Bowl, Ightham
Prime were put to the sword by a classy Ightham outfit who lived up to their Sevenoaks Premier League billing.
The day started badly for the visitors with captain Abu stuck in traffic, meaning a last-minute reshuffle with Walker taking the captain's armband and Taylor starting down the left-wing with Henshall moved infield.
Ightham were out of the blocks ridiculously quickly and were 5-0 up with 13 minutes!! There were one or two defensive errors mixed in there, but at least 3 of the 5 were well crafted goals that neither Prime's defence nor 'keeper Balcombe could do much about.
In the midst of this chaos, Sander had managed to split his boot, meaning a sad end for his beloved brown Nikes and also a debut for midfielder Perry Senior - initially at right-back.
Prime were still firmly on the back foot, but Ross Taylor was providing some relief with a couple of fine runs down the left-wing and some dangerous crosses which strikers Betts, Barker and Ferguson narrowly failed to latch on to.
Betts then fired just over the bar from 25 yards - providing Prime with their first real shot at goal.
Two further goals followed before the break and Prime were delighted to hear the half-time whistle.
Worrying Jamie Sykes also managed to tweak a hamstring which meant that Pete Henshall filled in at left-back for the second half, with Senior moved into central midfield to join the late-arriving Abu. Walker moved to centre-back alongside Williams.
It was still largely one way traffic, but there were no further goals for 15 minutes and Senior in particular was showing some good poise when on the ball, but too many Prime players were guilty of panicking on the ball and gifting possession back to the home side.
Two further goals in quick succession made it 9-0 and with 20 minutes left, Sykes took over from Balcombe in goal and Gibson, Cary and Betts returned to the fray, replacing Buckland, Williams and Barker - who had looked the most lively of the Prime strikers.
Sykes conceded a 10th goal soon after and Goldsmith replaced Ferguson up front.
The final goal came with 5 minutes on the clock - Sykes again left with no chance.
At full-time Prime were left to reflect on a thumping defeat, but this will be their hardest game of the season by far and there were a few plus points - namely the impressive performances of Taylor and Senior - both of whom will have pressed their claims for a starting XI place.
